news. the accused master mind behind the 9/11 attacks has reached a plea agreement with the u.s. military court. khalid shake mohamed, also known by ksm will plead guilty to lesser charges in an attempt to avoid the death penalty. good morning, what more do we know about this deal? >> reporter: good morning, frances. there are a number of things we still don't know about this deal such as the exact charges the men are expected to plead guilty to. they will avoid the death penalty while allowing the nearly two-decade case to come to a close. khalid sheikh mohamed, he was captured by u.s. forces in pakistan in 2023 and 03 and has held since 2006. ksm and his two accomplices were originally charged by a military

court in 2008. the initial charges were no less than war crimes and murder. and for the past 15 years, there has not been much movement on their case, with these three defendants stuck in pretrial detention. lawyers representing them have slammed this as a farce going as far as to say the government was slow-walking the trial in avoiding details to come to light about cia captivity. the concerns particularly seem to relate to regards to their treatment in this period. the next steps in this process now that the plea agreement has been reached with the office of military commissions is expected to come at a hearing next week when the three defendants are expected to plead guilty to unspecified, lesser charges. >> i'm sure there's strong sentiment from the victims and their families. iran is vowing revenge after hamas' political leader was
